  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 1 large egg

  • 1/4 cup melted shortening
  • Vegetable or peanut oil (for frying)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar (for filling)
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 4 2/3 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons honey (for glaze)
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter (for glaze)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (for glaze)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt (for glaze)
  • Warm water (as needed for glaze)

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
  2. In another bowl, combine warm water, honey, egg, and vanilla; mix in melted shortening.
  3. Gradually add wet ingredients to dry ingredients and mix until combined.
  4. Knead the dough for about 8 minutes until smooth and slightly sticky.
  5. Let the dough rise in a warm place for 1 to 2 hours until doubled in size.
  6. Roll out dough into a rectangle, sprinkle with cinnamon-sugar filling, roll tightly and cut into pieces.
